Forgive Us Our Trespasses

“We attended the new Roving Roots play, Forgive Us Our Trespasses, at IRT Theater last night. Great show! It provided a diverse range of perspectives regarding sexual assault, while painting a strong narrative that kept us all hooked until the very end. Great acting kept us grounded in the reality of the play’s theme, and the integration of A/V elements helped to present the story in a unique and interesting way. Well done all around!”

In April 1984, Claire Stukel was brutal attacked. When she wrongly identified the attacker, an innocent man, Gene Shephard, spent 17 years in prison, only to be released on DNA evidence in 2002. His release forces Claire to reconsider all that she believes, including how to raise her son, Justin. But as Claire struggles to forgive herself, the past comes back to victimize her anew, and Gene’s innocence isn’t as clear as it was the day he was released.
